Here's to you Mrs. Robinson,

3 weeks until Thanksgiving break. Another 3 weeks until Christmas break. Another 3 weeks until finals/the semester ends.
So, we're looking at 9 more weeks total.

I have a Question for you.
As you know, I'm going on the trip to France. However, I hate french class, to the point where I don't care about doing anything in it. I really want to drop out of it. But, in order to go on the trip, I have to stay in french class. If I do though, I know my grades will suffer terribly for it. On the other hand, chances are I won't have any other travel opportunities like this for a long time. So the Question is, do I stay in french class to go on the trip, or forfeit it?
I know what I want to do, as I'm sure you could guess, but what do you think?

i don't know what decision you've made, but you are asking for my opinion, so i shall impart such.
i completely understand your frustration with french class, as i am facing similar frustrations with my spanish class. and though i realize that going to france will necessitate you staying in this class, however much you hate it, i am the kind of person that always puts my academic future ahead of everything. so to me, if your grades are going to suffer terribly for it, i feel like it may not be worth it. after all, if your grades fall into oblivion, will that not ruin your chances of being able to go on the trip at all? it would for me, i think. if not because of the school regulations, because of my parents.
though i realize that you might not have a chance like this for a long time, i feel like if you do decide to drop the class, your grades will stay good, and that, in the long run, will allow you to get into a better graduate program at a better school, which will, undoubtedly, afford you several opportunities to travel abroad, most likely at the university's expense. and i know that feels like a long time to wait, but maybe in the long run, it'll be worth it.
i'm facing a sort of similar dilemma with the spain trip, but for me it's a money and time issue.
i hope this helps? although, i suppose it won't, considering you've made your decision. in that case, i hope my opinion is somewhat valuable. (:

I feel like if you continue with french class in order to go on the trip, you could end up disappointed if the trip doesn't turn out to be worth it. Not that I think it wouldn't be a good opportunity, but I could see it very easily falling short of your expectations, especially because of everything you'll have to put up with to get there. But honestly, I'm not the one in your position, so you really should just do whatever you want to. Either way you'll be giving something up, so if you feel like one choice is sounding better than the other you should go for it.

I'm sure it's not the only chance you'll ever get to go to France. Plus, if you look on the bright side, if you ever end up going on your own you won't have someone to tell you what you have to do the whole time.
